Lomo

Here, I am going to post the pictures that I took during the VC Lomography Expedition on 8th February. This is kind of late entry due to waiting the photos to be develop and mainly my busy schedule of doing project at school. The meeting point is at Tanjong Pagar MRT station. The meeting time is 2:00 pm but I was about 10 minutes late because I woke u at around noon that day after very late morning sleep as I was participating in Laser Challenge during the night before and early morning hours. When I reached there, Deb, Clara (the two organizers), Serena, Liu Ying, Kai Xin, Sharon, Ya Wen, Pui Ye and other new members were there already. Then, at around 2:30pm, the expedition started. Clara and Deb explained the members about lomography and basic camera settings. After that, we all walked, walked and shot photos. It was an enjoyable expedition where I could practice lomography. But I not strictly followed one of the lomography rules which is "Don't Think Just Shoot" because I still think for some time such as composition, etc before shooting photos. Lomography is an interesting category in which each of film, ISO, processing (normal, crossed), and camera results in different outcome/effects in photos. Normally, cross-processing of films results in funky and saturated colours. Cameras also create effects the image such as vignetting, dreamy-soft focus, fish-eye , and so on.

Below are the 11 shots that I took using Kodak 400TX (black and white film). Thanks Serena for the film. :) It is my first time shooing black and white in medium format film.

And the followings are taken using Agfa 100 Precia film on one day after the expedition as I didn't have enough time to shoot on the expedition. At first, I had plans of going to places such as Botanic Gardens, Kampong Glam, Labrador Park. But, unfortunately, it was a rainy day. Almost the whole day rained. So, the above plan was cancelled. Instead, I walked around my neighbourhood in the rain. So, I hold my Holga in one hand while umbrella in the other. The last two photos, I shot at Pasir Malam at night using bulb mode.

C133 Chalet @ Costa Sands Pasir Ris

Event: C133 Class Chalet
Location: Costa Sands Resort (Pasir Ris), B09
Duration: 18th March to 20th March (3 Days, 2 Nights)
Organizers: Ee Peng and Gina

Day 1
In the morning, went back to school to attend the IT Project Show. This year team was "IT @ Work, Home, Play". Listend to award-winning presentations from 3 project groups. All of the projects presented were interesting. Sat in the LT and listened to the presentations until around 11. Saw Lokman and Ching Leong, who volunteered as ushers. Then, proceeded to special labs at Block 1 to view the projects showcase. Viewed TP Google 3D, HDR E-learning, TP in Second Life, and others. All of them were quite interesting. From the explanation of two students who did HDR Imaging e-learning, I was introduced about a software called Photomatix to create High Dynamic Range Images, which are images rich in colour, and details. I haven't explored about it fully yet. I will learn and update again.

The project show ended at around 1. I was supposed to meet with Ee Peng and Ching Leong at NTUC Tampines to buy things necessary for the BBQ but when I called her she said finised shopping already. So, I went back home first to change my formal attire and bathed. Then around 3:30, took Bus 21 to Pasir Ris Interchange.

Reached the place at around 4:30. Only Ee Peng, Andy and Fii were there. Rested for a while and we all walked to the Pasir Ris Beach nearby where we sat and enjoy the gentle sea breeze. I taught Fii the basics of DSLR. I showed him different settings of shutter speed, aperture, ISO and he also shot some photos to practice.

Then went back to our chalet and then walked to Down Town East to meet with the rest and then we all proceeded to have dinner at the food court. Me, Ryan and Benjamin had Chichen Rice, who was nice.

At night, we played different card games until 3am. Samson joined us past midnight. He and Ching Leong played Chinese Chess. Then, I felt very sleepy and fall asleep on the sleeping mat downstair.

Day 2
Woke up at around 8:30, bathed. Ryan went back home for bathing. Me, Lokman and Andy went to McDonald's to have breakfast. After that returned. Then, I went up to the bedroom upstairs and fall sleep again until around 1pm. Initially, we had planned to go for swimming but because of the rain we cancelled the plan and stayed indoor. When the rain stopped at around 4pm, Ryan, Member, Fii, Andy, Gen, Hui Shan, Kai Wen went to Giant to purchase some more stuff for BBQ.

We started the BBQ at around 6pm. Ryan started the fire. Initial food was Satay, Chicken Wings marinated by Fidah, Crab stick. I helped the food to BBQ while Fii practice shooting photos using my 400D. Danny joined us at around 7 plus and we also BBQ another chicken wings as well as prawns. Member prepared the prawns in the aluminium foil and put butter on them. The prawns were very delicious and my favourite food that night. Later, Ms Low, our care person joined us with her husband and two very cute sons. Dr. Nalaka and his wife also joined us. He brought us TWO Water melons, very nice of him. I also ate a lot of water melons as I like them also.

The BBQ ended at around 10pm and we took group shots before some went back home. As usual, we played card games. But this time, I went to sleep early. At around 1am, I went upstairs and fall alseep.

Day 3
Last day of Chalet. Ee Peng told us to check out by 10:30am. Member woke us up at around 7:30am when we were still having very sound sleep. I woke up for a while. Member, Ee Peng, Ben, Fii went back home early, leaving the key to Lokman to check out. Slept again until 9am. Then, packed all the things, checked out. Took a ride in Ryan's car. Thanks Ryan for the ride! Reached home at around 11:30am.

The above is brief description of what happened during the chalet. I enjoyed myself all 3 days. Enjoyed playing games, shooting photos and having BBQ, talking with former classmates who are now in ECT option.

Let me wrap up this posting with photos taken by Fii and me.

Imagine Cup Briefing

Haven't updated my blog for one week plus. Last week, I went back to TP almost everyday to do Imagine Cup (IC) project meetings and briefing. Wednesday, received email from Microsoft informing us that we were into the Semi-finals of the Imagine Cup Singapore round. We will be competing with other 15 teams from various schools in Singapore. The semi-finals will be held on 24th April. Only about 1 month left to develop the system. Stressful weeks ahead, i think.

Today, I met with my IC group mates and attended briefing by Microsoft at its office at One Marina Boulevard. Mr. Stanley Tan briefed and then they recorded a short video clip to upload to the official Singapore Imagine Cup. The website is current down. I will update when it is up and how to vote for our team.

Meanwhile, the followings are some photos I took today. The weather was very nice. The sky was blue and an ideal day to shoot outdoor photos. Hope Suan Yang could go around and shoot for his entries for Singapore Yong Photographer Award entries. Oh, after the briefing was over, I walked to KT at Chinatown to drop my 120 Kodak 100TX roll for development. They said need to wait for at most 3 days... Will upload the photos after I collect next week. :)

Onboard Singapore Flyer

Today was a gloomy day. Since morning when I woke up, it was raining heavily, and the surrounding was dark. A good weather to sleep. But woken up by my phone alarm. I needed to attend the National Infocomm Competition 2007 Award Ceremony. But until today, I never received any update about who would be the lecturer in-charge and how was the plan to go. Individually? or Gather at school? Until 12pm, no news. So, contact Hanafi and he said need to go there by ourself. The place was at Seafood Paradise Restaurant at Singapore Flyer.

Reached there at around 3. There were many students from secondary schools, JCs, ITEs, and polytechnics. Registered ourselves and got stickers for a ride in a capsule of Singapore Flyer. Then, went inside the restaurant and watched a video and listened to the speech by the GOH from IDA. Then, the awards were given. I was a bit excited because IDA haven't inform what prize we would be getting in the invitation email, just stated as an award. They awarded 2nd, 1st runner ups and champions from secondary, JC and Poly/ITE circuits, in order. We, Temasek Polytechnic Informatics & IT school won Second runner-up prize! So we (6 students who won awards in the competitions) went up on stage and received the awards. IDA awarded TP the following items:

A Trophy
A cheque of SGD 1,200
6 Ipod Touch!

The pictures follows:

Followed by Hi-Tea Session.

Then, they called group by group to board the capsules of the Singapore Flyer. We were group number 5, so waited while having a quick bite of food. Around 5pm, our group's turn. There were about 25 people in our group. We went up to level 2 for tickets and security check. And finally, we boarded into the capsule.

The view is very nice. Got the good view. But since it was cloudy and raining a bit, can't see so far. But overall, the experience was really nice. Snapped many photos. Enjoyed the 360' view. The photos follows:
